Q: What are the most common applications for EonCoat?
A: Marine Industry - Corrosion resistant coating protects against the highly corrosive saltwater environment.
Infrastructure - Lower the cost of infrastructure maintenance and extend equipment life, while protecting employees with a coating that has a zero flame spread and cannot burn.
Industrial Plants - A corrosion resistant coating that has no VOC’s and a zero flame spread, protects the machinery, piping, equipment and even the people, inside industrial plants.
Heavy Equipment - Heavy equipment and machinery are a costly capital investment for any business. Abrasion resistant, corrosion resistant, heat resistant EonCoat protects this investment.
Consumer Goods - Manufacture more durable products than your competition. EonCoat is ideal for consumer goods exposed to the elements or high heat.
Commercial Buildings - For hotels, office buildings, and restaurants, EonCoat is an excellent choice for interiors and exteriors.
Q: What is NOT recommended for EonCoat?
A: Continual exposure to acids below pH 3 and alkalis above pH 11. On substrates that will be bent beyond 20%, the elastic limit of EonCoat.
Q: What surfaces need a primer before EonCoat can be applied?
A: Plastics and wood require a primer.
Q: Can EonCoat be applied over existing rust and corrosion?
A: The surface should be brush blasted (or water blasted) to remove loose rust and contamination.
Q: Who can apply EonCoat coatings?
A: EonCoat coatings can be applied by either:
An EonCoat certified contractor
Product manufacturers who have been trained by EonCoat
Training is at our facility or yours. We teach you how to use the equipment, the application process, and how to recognize proper EonCoat reactions.
Q: What does the certification process entail?
A: Training is at our facility or yours. We teach you how to use the equipment, the application process, and how to recognize proper EonCoat reactions. Experienced painters generally pick up the technique and understand the minor differences in a few minutes. We recommend two days of training to allow ample time to cover maintenance of the equipment, trouble shooting, and to understand the technology. EonCoat has a huge weather application window, generous surface prep allowances, and the ability to apply very thick coatings in one application. To be able to take full advantage of these features it is useful for the applicator to understand why and how.
Q: Do I need special equipment in order to apply EonCoat coatings?
A: EonCoat is a two component system applied using a plural (2K) spray gun. The coating uses a 1:1 ratio, and sprays on using standard plural spray equipment that mixes at the nozzle of the spray gun. This equipment can be rented, purchased, or borrowed through EonCoat. The process requires no special heating equipment or other apparatus besides the plural spray gun.
Q: How thick can EonCoat be applied?
A: One pass will give approximately between 3 and 6 mils (75 to 150microns). You can make multiple passes immediately without runs or sags. There is no limit on thickness that can be applied in a single application with multiple passes. The dry film thickness (DFT) and wet film thickness (WFT) are equal because there are no solvents.
Q: What thickness is recommended?
A: The thickness of EonCoat depends upon the application. For example - corrosion protection, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance or flame barrier. In your consultation, you will receive a specific recommendation depending on your product and the environmental factors it will be subjected to. General recommendations:
Corrosion - 3-9 mils thick (1-3 passes)Chemical resistance - 6–20 mils (2-6 passes)
Severe Abrasion Resistance – as needed for service life – from 5 mils to ¼ inch if desired
A. If the substrate is steel a Commercial blast (NACE 3) or high pressure water blast (NACE 5) is all that is required. There is no need to blast to NACE 1 or 2 since slight oxidation on the surface allows for the best chemical reaction.
Q: Can the speed of reaction be slowed down to increase working time before it is cured?
A: There are various ways to decrease reaction time, but they are specific to the material being coated and environmental factors. EonCoat will advise you on this during the consultation.
A: Minimally, since EonCoat dries in seconds so material that doesn't go directly onto the substrate immediately after leaving the spray gun will generally dry before it floats anywhere else.
Q: If overspray happens on adjacent surfaces can it be easily removed?
A. EonCoat can only be removed by sandblast or grit media. Our training team will educate your staff on the process to minimize overspray.
A: Mix equal amounts of part A with part B to get an inert ceramic rock (MgKPO4.2H2O) which can be disposed of anywhere you would dispose of rock or other inorganic materials.
Q: How long can the leftover paint be kept before it must be mixed and disposed of?
A: There is no limit on how long the material can be kept before disposal.
